There’s a good reason that our “vent unit” has been named “Breath of Life.” It’s not the respiratory support equipment, it’s the attitude of our staff and the gratitude of our residents and their families. Our Social Services Team keeps a finger on the pulse of everyday life. Meeting with residents, family members and staff on a regular basis, they ensure that specific needs are being met and expectations are being satisfied. There were lots of resources within the facility. For admittance, Isabella seemed to be like limited followup.
On Sunday night, they called an ambulance to take me to an ER. I was hospitalized for 7 days and the whole time, my Dr. kept muttering "this shouldn't have happened". She made it clear that my hospitalization could have been avoided had the staff been "on top of it". When I was released, I went to a different facility, which was equally depressing but had a strong PT program. Learning recently of the scandal surrounding Isabella connected with their failure to disclose how many had died there of covid19, I wasn't the least surprised.

I had to call her on the floor phone because she couldn't reach her cell phone. Two days in a row I spent two hours listening to her yell for help, talk to imaginary people and mutter. When I finally got to visit her, she was no better, but I did get her to eat something. The next night I went back and she was on oxygen.
I had a complimentary lunch and a tour at Isabella House. I saw a typical apartment with a living room, a bedroom, a small kitchen, and a bath. In 1914 a Jewish sports club was founded and it sponsored various sports organizations. Club Hagibor became very famous for its wide range of sport events, and part of the international Maccabi sports association later on. There were also some social and cultural events organized by Hagibor.
We have 20 certified ventilator beds, 16 respiratory transition beds and a specially trained, inter-disciplinary team of professionals to treat, monitor and assist each resident. The rehabilitation therapy team and nursing staff provide a comprehensive therapy program that will help reinforce skills learned in our rehabilitation suite. My grandpa says that he feels great there and that the staff is really good. I have seen by myself that the staff is well educationed and organized. They pay attention to all of their patients equally.
Isabella values the freedom of everyone while also attending to the safety and security of each resident. Where appropriate, residents may wear a “Watchmate” which provides immediate notice to staff if the wearer wanders into an unexpected or unprotected area. Staff accompanies the resident back to safety. There are no locked resident floors at Isabella. Security measures are in place at all times.
When the German army came to Prague, all the Jews were prohibited from attending normal places and Hagibor became their only safe place. Here they could meet and get involved in social, sport and cultural activities. This was especially important for the children as Hagibor was the only place in Prague they were allowed to play together.

Her relatives live all over the world and the cost of staying in touch by phone is prohibitive. So I introduced our new PC equipment to Mrs. A.S. And although she seemed very excited, she was naturally a little bit afraid and had some trepidation about starting. What a wonderful surprise for her when she received her first email message from her daughter living in the U.S.A. The excitement was even greater when we installed Skype technology and Mrs. A.S.
